Ploughing between the vines has the following effects

  1. Aeration of the soil, which provides essential oxygen to the various soil organisms. Invertebrates, fungi and bacteria play a vital role in helping the vine roots assimilate nutrients.
  2. Weed control. Excessive weed growth can have a negative effect on the vine through competition for nutrients, water and even sunlight.
  3. Forming a thin surface layer of dry soil which acts like a mulch, retaining moisture in the sub-soil
We do not follow a fixed ploughing schedule, but rather adapt according to the particular situation. We choose between the following techniques: butage, débutage, griffage, intercep binage, and sous-solage.
